Club Manager

Neil McKechnie is a former tennis and squash coach who also has worked as a Health Educator for the YMCA of greater Toronto.  Neil also worked for the Royal Canadian Yacht Club as a member of the sailing department. His previous experiences also include managing sports clubs for Westin, Sheraton and Intercontinental Hotels. Neil grew up playing at Rosedale Tennis Club, so is familiar with community/private tennis clubs.

Kew Gardens Tennis Pros


Bobby Mahal is the Head Tennis Professional at Kew. Bobby Mahal was born and raised in Brampton, Ontario.   As a player Mahal won 3 Canadian National Junior Championship titles. In 1999 Mahal graduated with a bachelor degree’s from the University of California at Berkeley where he was the top player on the Men’s Team in Singles and Doubles for three seasons.  Between 2001-2004 Bobby worked as Tennis Analyst and commentator for Rogers Sportsnet as well as the world tennis feed.  Since 2005 Bobby has done coaching consulting and helped develop programs here in Canada, the United States, India, Dubai, the Bahamas and Belarus. Bobby is a certified Tennis Canada Level 3 Coach and Club Pro 2.

Bobby and his staff look forward to sharing their knowledge and expertise with all members.  They will be offering a wide range of programming for all levels, from juniors to adults to beginners to advanced.

Ira Sherman, Assistant Pro

Ira Sherman is a Tennis Canada Certified Club Pro 3. This will be his 5th season at Kew Gardens Tennis Club.
With over 20 years of teaching experience, Ira has traveled the world as a teaching pro. His coaching philosophy is to engage people of all ages and skill levels and make sure they are having fun while learning tennis skills for a purpose.
Ira is the co-founder of Progressive Tennis League (PTL). PTL focuses on delivering innovative and quality tennis programming during the indoor season for children between the ages of 4 – 12.
Ira has also combined his love of travel with tennis by offering exciting tennis retreats during the winter season through his company First Serve Travel.
